*[[ Aid for the dogs in Phuket ]]*

I was thrilled and sad at the same time upon seeing Ricky's email. Ricky is the head of Action For Singapore Dogs Society. Never got a chance to meet him twice when I went to his house. I spoke to his mum, who was a real gem!

Sad because of the plight that the animals are in. Thrilled because that there are actually people who cares about them.

Since the disaster happened, I have been thinking about what's going to happen to the poor animals there?

I will be contributing more this time. As the world contributes to the people that are being affected, few will actually care for the animals.

Please do help for the animals ... no matter whether people or animals, they are after all living things on earth.

God bless.

Hi everyone
As you all know, Phuket, Thailand was one of the areas where the Boxing Day Tsunami wrecked destruction, and the world responded overwhelmingly with monetary and humanitarian aid.

However, little was reported if any, of the animal situation there. If any of you were there in the past, there are usually quite a number of stray dogs and cats around, coexisting with the human population there

The grim situation there is that the dogs and cats there are starving, as their caregivers have either perished in the tsunami or are missing. Their habitats have also been totally wiped out, and the aid has been directed primarily to humans

Fortuantely, there has been a number of animal welfare organizations that have responded quickly and initiated a process of aid for the animals.

Soi Dog Rescue (Soi is street in Thai) (www.soidogrescue.org) whose headquarters are in Bangkok and whose other branch Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket has been sending food aid down to feed the starving animals

HSI Asia (http://www.hsiasia.org) and WSPA (http://www.wspa-international.org/site/index.php?page=1117) (World Society for the Protection of Animals) are also there to cooridinate relief efforts for the animals

One of our volunteers Choong Leng have been to Bangkok to check with Sherry Conisbee, the president of Soi Dog Resuce about the immediate needs and her urgent request was for dog food.

However, it would be impractical to buy the food here and send it over, as logistically it would be difficult and the food is cheaper over there as most of the time it is manufactured there. As such, we feel money will be the best way to help them now. ASD has agreed to be the collection point for all donations and this will be consolidated and given to Choong Leng to hand to the Soi Dog Rescue and to ensure that the money is directed to food or medical aid for the animals

In addition, a portion of all donations collected will be used to buy Accurate anti flea/tick medication which can be handcarried easily and given to the aid groups there

As such we request all of you to donate generously, dig deep into your hearts and pockets for the animals there need our help as well, and they do need a second chance to rebuild their lives again as well.

Soi Dog Rescue is an organization that believes in giving these stray dogs a second chance at life as well, and it is no mean feat as their stray dogs problem is about 10 times worse than ours. This terrible tragedy has compounded their already heavy burden and we want to help them as much as we can.

We will open a 2 week window from the 15th of Jan to the 31st of Jan 2005 to accept your much needed and precious donations
